Title: Inspiron's
|
Date: October 31, 2009
|
Product Uses: home use, Gaming, entertainment
Review:I love most dell products but so far to me the inspirons are not the best thing dell has come out with. I have a 6 year old laptop that works better than this desktop. I will stay with dell but definantly get away from the inspiron product line.

Title: Speakers Don't Measure Up
|
Date: August 24, 2009

Product Uses: Finances
Review:I love the computer overall. However, I also purchased the 5 piece speaker system which I am very disappointed with. I had to have my brother assemble the system (after over a year without use) and now, after having used it I'd say for a month's time so far, it is very poor quality, with static developing after about a half hour's use. Like I said, I love the computer, hate the speaker system!!!

Title: Does not operate up to potential
|
Date: August 8, 2009

Product Uses: engiineering, computer aided design, Finances, business
Review:I have owned and operated computers since 1984, starting with DOS and continuing through Windows 3.1, 98, 2000, XP, and Vista Premium. I now have the Inspiron 530 with a 2.8 GB processor and 4 GB of memory. In spite of this, the system takes 6 minutes to reboot after a program hang, The task manager will not terminate a hung program. My scanner will no longer work with this system, The help files on older programs no longer work even after downloading winhlp.exe from Microsoft. The display is excellent. I'm sorry I bought this computer and upgraded from Windows 2000 to Vista premium.

Review:So far I'm pretty happy with my new computer.
Purchasing my computer on dell.com was a little difficult to figure out at times. I like how it steps you through the list of upgrades and options. But bundles and discounts (including shipping discounts) are very confusing, probably by design.
The standard keyboard is very small and basic but I didn't want to spend $50 to upgrade to a normal sized one.
One of the primary reasons I bought at this time, a free Windows 7 upgrade is available for new systems purchased after a certain date. But when I logged in to register my computer, model 530 was not in the list of eligible models. Fortunately, a couple weeks later it was added. If it hadn't been eligible, this would have been my last Dell purchase. As I understand it, this free upgrade is provided by Microsoft and doesn't cost Dell anything except the cost of processing/shipping the upgrade discs. THIS IS WHY I PAID A PREMIUM PRICE FOR A DELL COMPUTER.
I upgraded my system with a faster quad processor, more RAM and a larger hard drive so I have no complaints about speed or capacity.
Would have been nice if Dell included a firewire port like Gateway does. It was available as an option but I'll pull the firewire card out of my old computer and save the $$$.
