Title: So far... BEST product
|
Date: November 20, 2009

Product Uses: Gaming, movies, quad core 2.0 ghz, 4gb 1333 mhz, nvidia 260m gtx, solid state drive, chat browse
Review:First of all, hearing how "heavy" this beast is gets old pretty quick. It's a 17" laptop guys, don't think it'll weight like a 13" Jr. laptop. Also, please don't expect it to be thin either, it ain't exactly a "macbook air". Any energy saver PC's will be slow in performance, that's how it saves you energy. More juice = more performance, just like speeding in a car, give it more gas and you go faster.
Now that's off my chest, this thing is the best laptop I've had so far. I really recommend the solid state drive, loads up and shuts down the laptop pretty friggen quickly. I didn't go all out on this one and I'm still really happy with it. It weighs about the same as the XPS M1730, maybe a little less. Great performance, great look, great product overall.
My only complaint is that the wire was packed too tightly which 'caused a break in the cord that connects to the laptop. For a thick cord it shouldn't be bent close to folding. It doesn't recognize the input power so it reads "plugged in, not charging" and the performance is affected a bit. Hopefully I'll get a replacement for that pretty soon. Highly recommended.

Title: Alienware M17X - AMAZING!
|
Date: November 20, 2009
|
Product Uses: Gaming, web development
Review:I just purchased the Alienware M17X with the Extreme Quad processor, 8 GB RAM, dual Geforce 280 video cards, Blu-ray Burner and HD Display.
There have been many positive reviews about the extreme performance of this machine, and I will echo those. It's simply amazing (as long as you have the $4,600 to plonk down)!
One item of note is that my maching shipped with the two discrete GPU's disabled, and only the integrated card active. It's of course easy to adjust this in the BIOS, so no major deal there.
My review will instead focus mostly on the ordering and shipping process from Dell, which was just like a dream. I ordered a Dell notebook about five years ago, and was very frustrated with the process at that time. My computer had been almost a week late, making it so I ended up waiting a month and change to work on my computer.
I was reticent to order from Dell again after that, but just HAD to have the new Alienware, so I took my chance. This time was a completely different process. I ordered three products from them the day I ordered my M17X (on top of this computer, I also ordered a backpack as well as the Inspiron computer for $99 promotion). Within one week of order my computer, they both shipped, here I am not even two weeks out from ordering and I'm working on my new computer!
Both of them shipped well prior to their expected ship date, and both arrived with no problems at all.
Kudos to Dell, they have truly turned things around since the last time I ordered through them.
Also, I loved all the SWAG that came with the Alienware, made opening up the package as fun for the kids as it was for me!
Thanks Alienware and Dell, the partnership is definitely working out! Now time to play some Left for Dead 2!

Title: WOW is this thing Quick! - but heavy....
|
Date: November 20, 2009
|
Product Uses: general use web surfing music/movie/pic editing
Review:So I was lucky enough to get my Alienware M17X from Dell as a warranty replacement for another notebook, won't get into that story, but Dell really stands behind their products and goes above and beyond what I ever expected.
When I found out I was receiving this as a replacement for my other notebook I was so excited. This thing is quick!
I am not a game player so I can't say much about the gaming potential, but I can't imagine it being anything but great.
It came with Vista but I got the free upgrade for Windows 7. The Windows 7 runs so fast and smooth it amazing.
I like the fact that it switches between integrated graphics and the discreet upgraded graphics. The battery life is impressive for something so large and filled with lights.
I love the way you can customize the keyboard and all of the other lights to make it look however you want. The keys have a nice feel and it is a joy to type on.
The textured surface on touchpad took me a few days to get used to. The touchpad buttons are sort of hard to click, but as I write this I just tested them and the left click has definitely gotten softer than the right click, so maybe it just need time to break in.
The sound is much better and the build quality is rock solid compared to my former Studio 17. No junky plastic here, just an impressive metal body, which is also surprisingly cool for the power it has.
I have only 2 complaints:
HEAVY! When I read reviews saying it was extremely heavy I thought people were exaggerating, but I wouldn't want to have to carry this thing around. I use it as a desktop replacement so I can deal with the weight for the most part, though using it on your lap sure does make your thighs hurt after a while.
Power Cord: I HATE the fact that the power cord goes into the back of the machine. It seems to always be in my way when setting it down, and is awkward to plug in when already in use. The port for the cord is in a very inconvenient spot.
There is nothing that would keep me from recommending this to anyone who has the extra cash to invest in a HIGH QUALITY system.

Title: Alienware M17x
|
Date: November 19, 2009

Review:Only recently received my Aleinware M17x in the last two weeks. Thus far I am pleased with the system. The shipment was delayed twice because system components weren't available for installation. Would recommend Dell.com adjust their estimated delivery date to reflect anticipated delivery date of system components.
